My sister just got a job at a school in Baton Rouge, on Government St near Rt-110. She won't have a car so she's looking for an apartment where she can walk or use public transportation to get to the school, around the $600/month range.

Looking through the forums, it seems like Spanish Town, Garden District and Beauregard Town are the safest options.

A few questions:
- how safe are these neighborhoods and where her school is?
- would these neighborhoods fit her price range and if so, do you have any recommendations? (she's open to living with a roommate)
- would she able to get around without a car?
- any other suggestions on where to live?

Thanks in advance!

I would be wary if she doesn't have a car. Walking the same way everyday as a woman from out of state is kinda iffy..
The Garden District would be ideal, as it's the closest neighborhood. Beauregard Town would be the second best option. Although, finding an apartment or room would probably be easier from Craigslist or personal references, etc. I'd say most is good within the boundaries of Acadian, Government, and I-10. East of the Lake and south of I-10 is fair game to Lee Dr which is the Southdowns neighborhood. Places east of Acadian can be fine as well although you can check here to get an idea of how the area is.

If its the Dufrocq School, the Garden District would be a fine place to start. Keep the search South of Government and East of Park.
