I'm in need of bulldozer services on the Hilo side of the big island. Don't worry, we're not clearing pin to pin, we just need a road into property and a house pad. A few questions:

1. How much can I expect to pay for bulldozer services these days?
2. Does anyone know someone I can get in touch with?

There is a member of punaweb.org - greywolf, who has a dozing company called "OnTrack". He says in one of his comments he usually charges $125 hr. for clearing.

The OP was trying to set up a sustainable eco-retreat and grow a lot of food along with a meditation center, I think was the plan. They'd been pretty well funded and had a lot of friends over to help, but they only lasted a couple of years. Part of it was the road that was built didn't have enough of a rock base and it was almost always a quagmire of mud. Pretty much a 4WD road only more than half the time. Adding in the almost constant thefts and the probably illegal gun range on a neighboring property (hard to meditate with gunfire around), they gave up and moved off to the mainland after a couple of years.

So, when building a road, put down a good foundation. Constantly getting stuck in the driveway (it had been a really long driveway, too) was one of the three major reasons they left, I'd guess.

I know this is an old thread but did you get your driveway and pad cleared? If you did and you’re still around what was the cost??

He went back to the mainland several years ago. There'd been problems with multiple thefts of equipment and materias as well as deep mud and the property he'd bought with the intention of making into a retreat turned out to be directly next to an unofficial shooting range so it was anything but serene.
