Aloha everyone -

Anyone feel the earthquake last night? Here in Kaumana we received two jolts. Then I read this morning about the short eruption. Praying we won’t have another major eruption.

I read about the eruption:

Pretty exciting! Hope it doesn't signal the return of VOG.

Sorry, but we already had VOG this morning in Ka`u. Our beautiful clear skies have disappeared (hopefully temporarily).

We were just in Kona yesterday picking up supplies for a rental repair and were commenting on how beautiful it was with the clear vog free skies. Sigh! Spoke too soon, I guess.

Hopefully it will be of a short duration and not a lot of vog. It is nice that there's at least a little lava in VNP, though, since there will now be more visitors to the park but hopefully not a lot of vog.

There was supposed to have been a lot of steam when the lake of water that had been in Halemaumau boiled off when the lava arrived. Hopefully, that was just the steam vaporizing and the level of vog will remain low.

The latest update is that the lava is rising several yards per hour. Doesn’t VOG affect Kona more than Hilo?

Generally- trade winds go from north east to south west. No trade winds all bets are off.

For sure because trades are the predominant wind pattern that blows the particulate around south part of island and then up the coast towards Kona. With lengthy 2018 eruption the Vog
affected Hilo and most Puna locations practically zilch.
Yup, sure did feel the quake. It was a sharp jolt, over just like that.

For those who live there...are you worried about volcanoes?

I'm worried about volcanoes probably similarly to how people in Florida are worried about hurricanes, people in California about wildfires, people in the midwest about flooding, and people in the pacific NW about mud slides. Maybe less. At least here there is limited and inaccurate ability to "choose your own adventure" with lava zones.

We smelled VOG at our place in OLE today for the first time in 2 years. Sigh.

The year I moved to Hawai'i Kilauea was still going strong and mainland friends and family kept asking if I wasn't worried about the volcano? A month living here and I had a property I own in California burn up in a forest fire.
So, yeah, I'm not too worried about volcanoes.
