Hubby has been relocated to Big Island....effective July 1. We've visited the islands many times and are happy the relocation is to the Big Island. We will be bringing a real "dog and pony" show and I'm having difficulty finding an answer to: which area do I look for housing that will have land for horses and dogs? We would prefer warm temps as opposed to rain/windy but you can't always have what you want. Any suggestions on where to begin my search? Sure will help any input.

Default Moving to Big Island

Where you will live depends on where your husband's job is located. How far does he want to drive and for how long? Finding large property anywhere near Kona is going to be very expensive. For affordable acreage, you might want to look south, around the South Point area. However, depending on location there you could have lots of wind. There are also horse properties south of Captain Cook, before you get to South Point. Lots of horse properties in the Waimea area, but then you have the wind to deal with. If the job is in Hilo, you will find lots of property available, but you'll have rain rather then wind. Start looking at the classifieds in West Hawaii Today.

Thank you for the info. I do remember Waimea as being windy. Job location is around Kealakekua. Have not been to Capt Cook but will check it out. We will be coming over for a couple of days and at least we now have an idea of where to start......thanks for your help!
