What really makes me laugh are the non-medical, non-licensed bedside experts who give much advice....

Without names or a source this is meaningless. I don't believe for five seconds a "majority" of pediatricians don't vaccinate their families. I call BS.

I have been around the Pediatric medical community for 20 years with a wife who has been a NICU director for 13 years at 3 Regional level hospitals and I have NEVER not ONCE met a Pediatrician or any Pediatric Specialist who skips vaccinating their kids. Their may be the lone soul out there who does skip this facet of modern medicine but they don't seem to advertise it where we have been.

You're welcome to believe whatever you want.

Plus, I'm not sure they would want their names published on a national forum. My responsibility to protect them as my clients, not cater to you.

Just because you haven't doesn't mean they don't exist. I've been a RN in california for 35+ years and my brother is a FP MD for longer. I've seen it on multiple occasions. My job involves auditing physician offices throughout california, educating providers & their staff on CHDP (SCHIP for other states), immunization schedules & administration, documentation of vaccines, infection control, presiding over multi-county immunization coalition, participating in national immunization coalitions and implementation of the statewide immunization registry (among other things).

Exactly, they don't typically advertise, although the info is well known in the community. Plus, in my line of business, I have the opportunity to have many heart to heart talks with MD's usually when I'm writing them up on their plan of correction!

OP: We have been vaccinating in this country on a grand scale for well over 50 years and our lifespan is continuing to get longer. I'm so glad my parents had me vaccinated way back when and I continue to get periodic vaccines from my dr as indicated including an annual flu shot. I'd hate to tell you how old I am, but I'm shooting to live into my 90s!!!

So, exactly what are you afraid of?

How typical, when you can no longer argue the point, call someone a troll, brilliant

funny how you've been around the pediatric medical community, for how long, 20 years? and you've never heard of the things I mentioned..CHDP/SCHIP, immunization registries (even Alabama has it! http://www.adph.org/Immunization/Default.asp?id=533), immunization coalitions, CMS/Medicaid audits...

I never stated a position on the subject, only provided information

"When asked whether they would follow the recommended vaccination schedule if they were to become a new parent themselves in 2010, 96% of pediatricians said yes."

"When the pediatricians were asked if they had their own child in 2010 would they follow the current immunization schedule — and the vast majority would. So I think that tells you immediately what pediatricians think is the best way to go. The difficulties can be in trying to persuade parents of the benefits of the schedule and that’s why a number of them have been willing to accede to parental requests."

There are pediatricians who are giving in to parental demands for alternative vaccination schedules, but it's not because they believe in them. It's because they are trying to get as many kids vaccinated as possible.

This makes no sense. "They give in to alternative schedules to get more kids vaccinated." First, alternative schedules slow down the immunization process. Single antigens are given at intervals instead of as a combined one time dose. And other vaccines are delayed until 12 months. This does meet the state immunization schedule requirements. I've cited many physicians for this practice.

Plus, the physicians, including pediatricians, whom I've worked with in California, promote an alternative schedule because they do not believe in the nanny state regulations or disagree with the schedule. These practitioners have been in practice for many years, their decisions are based on their own decision and beliefs. And they are "known" in their community.
Classic. The study quoted is actually an article, and the reference to the study is only an abstract. It's very typical of people to believe the abstract, not realizing that the study conclusions are sometimes quite different than the summary. Also, note the study was in Wash state. The findings there, may not be entirely transferable to other states.

California has 2 allowed exemptions: medical & personal beliefs/philosophical
Washington has 3: medical, religious, & personal beliefs/philosophical
Alabama has 2: medical & religious
Source: State Vaccine Requirements

The further I look, Washington is quite different. See here for the details on Washington's exemption laws: 2011 School and Child Care Immunization Exemption Law FAQ :: Washington State Dept. of Health
