I grew up in Birmingham but have been in Baton Rouge for the past 1.5 years. I am only 23 years old, but my husband and I are unfortunately already separating (long sad story) and I am moving back in a couple weeks. I would like to live in the Homewood/downtown Birmingham area to be close to entertainment options but know that there are some dangerous areas to live in. I used to live in Pelham so I am familiar with that area, but not so much the downtown living scene.

What would be the best apartment complex or housing rental company for someone my age? I would like a one bedroom or studio. Must have washer/dryer connections and kitchen for cooking. Other than that, I love to workout so proximity to a gym would be nice as well.

I've never cared for any of the complexes along Valley Ave, but you'd just have to come check out the others to tell if you'd feel comfortable there. I don't think you'd have any problems in the complexes in the new trendy spots downtown.

What are some of the complexes in the trendy spots downtown? Do you know the names?

Thanks

Station 121
Crowne on 10th
Park Place I
Southside Communities
Tapestry Park (Montclair)

I've never lived in any of these, but I think if you visit them you will probably get a good feel for them to see if they'll be comfortable for you.
