Anyone seen the Census date for the City yet? Eager to see how we shake out. Only seen the Montgomery numbers, which are down 5k.

Might need to move this to bad news if I am reading it correctly...

https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fa...bama/PST045219

Looks like population on the 2020 census is at 200,733 vs 212,237 in 2010. The 2019 estimate was 209,403.

Huntsville City is at 215,006 for 2020 vs an estimate of 200,574.

That's how it reads on the site, not sure if that is an error.

I seriously doubt it is an error. So much for all the sunshine pumpers who thought for sure this last decade the city had turned itself around and was now growing.

And if you think the next decade is going to show growth, well, maybe... but for years leading up to the 2010 census, people thought the new apartments and condos downtown from the pre-recession building boom would start to spearhead a population change for the city in the positive direction, or at the very least have it finally stop eroding after decades of losses. I warned people there would be a loss of residents, and sure enough... it was the biggest decline decade over decade in the city's history at -12.6%.

And of course right after those numbers came out the cheerleaders said that all the new development would certainly lead to a population boom by 2020. I was skeptical, but did figure the city would probably hold about steady (while our former peers continue to grow by leaps and bounds). And now it appears reality is setting in that 2010-2020 saw a not so insignificant decline and not a boom as many predicted.

People really need to understand that the city of Birmingham is more than just the area bounded by 65, Valley Avenue, 280, and 20/59. There are dozens upon dozens of neighborhoods that have been in decline for half a century and little to nothing has changed in those places in the last 20 years. And to be honest, I don't see a lot changing in most of those neighborhoods in the next 10 either.

Hoover is up to over 92,000 though and could overtake Tuscaloosa as the 5th most populous city in the state by 2030, though Tuscaloosa is growing too, so it more than likely won't.

Being realistic though how many people do yall really think participated in the census here? I think maybe 30%-40%. We can't even get good turnouts in elections I doubt majority of the citizens filled out a census form

Wow, where's the bottom? Hope that is it. That's a big swing from a 209k estimate to 200k. Good thing the city stayed over 200k at least. I'm thinking there's some fed money tied to that number. It gives Woodfin's opponents something else to run on I suppose.
