Looks like Coca-Cola is planning something big for the large vacant property right off of I-20 just east of Downtown Birmingham! They are being tight lipped about it right now, but they are already clearing the property.

More than likely, they are probably going to build a new production/distribution facility. They don't have any space on the hill to expand currently.

New cafe and market to open in Southside

https://www.bizjournals.com/birmingh...Pos=0#cxrecs_s

A new market and cafe is coming to Southside.

Brooklyn Natural Market and Cafe is coming to an 1,800-square-foot space at 1022 20th St. S. in the Five Points South area of Birmingham.

The market, adjacent to Bay Leaf and New China restaurants, will offer a variety of groceries, including fresh produce, snacks, vegan options and nutritional supplements. The cafe side will offer healthy breakfast and lunch options, according to a release.

Several new shops and restaurants have opened or unveiled plans to open in the area recently.

Indian street food franchise EggHolic said in November that it will open in the former location of Waffle House in Five Points South.

Indoor golf venue Fore Birmingham opened in November in Pickwick Plaza at 2012 Magnolia Ave. S. Indoor golf, in which golfers can play world-renowned courses on simulator screens, have gained in popularity since the pandemic and have popped up in bars, restaurants, hotels and stand-alone facilities across the nation.

Magnolia Soap & Bath Co. opened in Five Points South in October.

Another major development is underway in Southside — the redevelopment of the Magnolia Point building at 2234 Magnolia Ave. That project includes a restaurant owned by Mike Mouron and his wife and managed by Nick Pihakis.

Can't wait to hear the actual scope of the project! I hope the exterior of the building is lit up like the Coca-Cola facility in south Georgia right off of I-75. That Coca-Cola sign is fire!

What's the big construction going on at the airport..??

https://www.facebook.com/share/r/frA...ibextid=oFDknk

Plus last week, city councilors were in D.C. for the National League of Cities conference and presented this issue to congressional leadership concerning the airport.

Airfield Safety and Expansion and BHM

The current runway and taxing position at Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport does not meet FAA safety standards, which limits the number of aircraft that can be accommodated at one time. Taxiway improvements would not only make the airport safer, but it would also significantly increase the economic opportunities for more cargo traffic.

The current cost of the project is $100 million but could be completed in phases. The request is for $20 million with the FAA Airport Improvement Program to help with the planning, design and construction of a portion of the airport’s primary runway.

A company in Chattanooga has bought the Golden Flake campus for a redevelopment. They plan to spend $3M-$4M on improvements and have Southeastern Salvage as an anchor tenant. Southeastern Salvage is moving from Irondale and will be doubling the size of their store.

There's additional space available for lease and over 15 acres of land available for sale or lease.

A new residential development located in Birmingham's historic Highland Park is nearing completion.

Maiden Heights is located at 1235 23rd St. S. and features an enclave of 11 residences across a mix of brownstones, villas and manors utilizing classic architecture, modern design and panoramic views.

"We are very proud of this project and the vision behind it," said Justin Worthington, co-founder and principal of Red Street Investment Co., the developer of Maiden Heights. "We want to create a community that respects the history of the site and offers a unique lifestyle to its residents."

Built on the former McLaughlin estate, a historic site dating back to 1907, the development and design of Maiden Heights was inspired by the historic urban townhouses of New York and Boston. Each residence features a distinctive floor plans and includes, pneumatic elevators, basement parking with electric car chargers and rooftop terraces overlooking the neighborhood.*Barrett Architecture Group is the architect, Murray Construction is the general contractor and*Ingram and Associates LLC is leading the marketing of the development.

Villas just under 2,000 square feet featuring two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms are priced just under $1 million, and three-story brownstones spanning 3,167 square feet are priced at $1.452 million.

"This is a great opportunity for people who want to live in a vibrant neighborhood that has everything they need," said Dorothy Tayloe, partner at Ingram and Associates. "Highland Park has a lot of character and culture, and it's close to downtown, UAB and other attractions."

The luxury residential project gained interest from prospective buyers prior to the start of construction. Six of the 11 residences are already under contract. Construction on the new residential development is wrapping up, with closings set to begin this month.

It isn't the only luxury development coming to the area. A new boutique condo development.in Birmingham’s Redmont Park that will offer a bit of Upper East Side living — albeit, with a slightly lower price tag — was in the presale stage in January.
