The 20Midtown construction camera has been moved, and is now showing the block where the 3rd building will be. Demolition will soon start in that block.

Interesting. I look at the camera just about weekly.

All the material and equipment has been moved out, so definitely should see activity soon.

Yup!
Also, it is always good when a new development eliminates surface parking lots. There should never be surface parking lots in an urban city center. There should only be on street and deck parking.

also realizing just how much demo they'll be doing on that site. had forgotten that block was nearly full. I know some are sad to be losing the building directly across from liberty national. I definitely advocate for historic preservation, but I don't mind this one. I don't feel it was significant enough or part of a larger context in the area to be saved, given the economic growth this new development should bring.

As we speak, heavy equipment is working the site of UAB'S new football operations complex and practice field. Dirt is being moved right now. The amount of new construction in downtown right now is amazing!

Wildwood finally getting some attention. Such a "big" exit in this location for this center to sit the way it does. Hopefully this will turn it around.

http://www.bizjournals.com/birmingha...-wildwood.html

Quote:
The Birmingham City Council today approved incentives for a project to redevelop the Wildwood Shopping Center.
Nashville-based Oldacre McDonald LLC plans to overhaul approximately 156,000 square feet of retail space at the Wildwood Shopping Center on Lakeshore Parkway. It will also add new retail pads to attract upscale restaurants to the area.

The project will cost about $30 million, according to the city council agenda. The city of Birmingham will provide financial incentives of up to $4.8 million, payable over five years in installments equal to 50 percent of the sales tax revenue generated from the new businesses, not to exceed $960,000 annually.

Found this on "I Believe" page. Looks like TopGolf will sit behind where that possible 3rd hotel was thought to go and that there is still room for both. Either way, still room for expansion in regards to Uptown and another hotel.

A modern office park for Avondale.
