Anyone familiar with the town of Brookside? The level of policing described in this article is pretty crazy. It will be interesting to see how this plays out now that there is a spotlight on the issue.

Definatly needs investigation by the Feds. Its basically a police state and corrupt misuse of authority.
How it has been able to continue these practices is also shocking.

I wonder if they will ticket you for driving below the speed limit?

What do the citizens of Brookside think? Is this a dirty way to raise revenue or is there something else at work?

I would love to hear from residents of that town if it is really as bad as reported. The increase in revenue and police presence in a town of less than 1500 people is crazy over just a couple years. What on earth does a small town like that need it’s own armored personnel carrier for? On the highly unlikely chance that a vehicle like that is needed, I am sure the Jefferson County Sheriff’s department could provide support.

Wow, I missed the related article. This town is dirty. I hope the residents vote out the mayor. It is pretty telling when the Jefferson County sheriff is going on record calling out the town and vouching for the pastor.

This is exactly why Jefferson County does not need all these little cities and municipalities. Too much duplication of services! And, I guarantee you that Brookside is not the only little city with these abusive practices! Call in the Fed's!

Curious. I always thought an interstate had to run through the city limits, or at least touch it, for the PD to be able to patrol it.

It does, and in Alabama the city has to be a certain size (I think like 20k people) for tickets to be issued. I didn't read the article, but I assume Brookside was writing tickets illegally and this is what a lot of the stink is all about.
