Something that caught my attention in the article...

"The event included the unveiling of a highway sign that will be placed on the state-line signs (assuming those Welcome to Alabama signs) on all the interstates leading into Alabama, declaring it “Home of the World Games 2021.”

Birmingham anticipates more than 3,600 athletes and 1,500 credentialed media from more than 100 countries. An additional 15,000 to 20,000 international guests and up to 500,000 fans and spectators from Alabama and surrounding states could attend.*NBC Sports Network will broadcast live from Birmingham during the 10 days.

The World Games 2021 Birmingham will take place July 15-25, 2021 and will generate an estimated $256 million in economic impact for the city.

that's pretty cool. i imagine of all the sports, women's softball might be one of the bigger draws (as it's already a known product and not an "obscure" sport).

The prospects are growing that there might not be be a rescheduled 2020 Olympics this year. If so, there are no plans to reschedule yet again.

Absolutely not wanting to benefit from Tokyo's loss, but it puts Birmingham in the strange, strange position of hosting the first international event of this type in the post-Covid era. There will be the Winter Olympics in Beijing, of course, but this will be the first summer games. Hope we're up to it.

Hopefully this country will start supplying places like Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Target, AFC, other retail places to start giving out vaccine shots as well and not just the local health departments/clinics/hospitals.

Seems to be a lot of confusion. I agree, I hope we are ready to put on a really good show.
