Some of my co-workers that a good pest control company is necessary, and others say they do it themselves. What do other folks tend to do?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good pest control company? I'm in Pelham, if it makes a difference. I spray my doors and windows occasionally with Ortho. I haven't seen anything more than the occasional spider, but I hate bugs and I'm worried that they'll get inside eventually and then all of Bham will hear me screaming.

Do companies do short-term contracts? I moved from a place with much colder winters, so I hadn't even thought about getting a company until now. I'm planning on moving to an apartment in 6 months, since renting a house has been a pain in the butt, so a year-long contract won't help me.

If you are terrified of bugs, I guess hire the professionals...?

But honestly, if you sprayed yourself, I would just see how it goes for a year or two. If you have a lot of problems, then get it done professionally. If you don't, then just keep spraying yourself.

I think it varies a lot from house to house on how many bugs and what types of bugs you get. When I lived in a basement home, I killed a several roaches a month. When I lived on a slab house, I don't think I saw a single roach in 5 years.

The bugs will come for you, no matter what you do. If it isn't roaches, it will be spiders, if it isn't spiders it will be millipedes or scorpions.

You will end up finding a pro to do it. But good luck, hope the over the counter do-it-yourself stuff works...

Sleep tight, and don't mind the clumsy ones that walk on the ceiling...

From my experience, I would use pest control if you have crawl space. My house in montevallo has a crawl space and I was not successful with DIY. Another thing to consider is how well neighbors control pests. Best of luck.

If you have low infestation from bugs or any other pests then it is better to do it yourself and if the infestation is in a big row then definitely you need to hire a pest control company.
