Haven't been on CD in a while, but I see the great CA debate is still raging! :-)

My take, be it ever so humble...

Born and raised in Southern California. When I was a kid it was fairly conservative, laws were reasonable, taxes not out of line with the rest of the country, economy pretty good, housings costs do-able, not horribly crowded.

In my late thirties, I began to see enough of a change (overcrowding really) that I considered maybe moving one day.

In my late 40's, I began to see previously decent neighborhoods (not too far from me) decay and crime increase. Congestion on the roads too.

In my late 50's, I began to hate the State. Sad, truly. Way too much crime, even in affluent areas with lots of police protection. Housing costs SKYROCKETING (buying and renting). Traffic not just bad, but a nightmare.

Most of this had/has to do with politics.

Politicians increasing taxes...tax everything they can and keep increasing those taxes as long as they can get away with it. Unsustainable gov't. retirement contracts, bail out everyone who wants a handout, support illegal entry into the US, create laws that increase the damaging effects of drought, kick the can down the road for someone else to fix, create gov't. entitlements that lack proper oversight, overlook the fine financial balancing act of preserving resources vs. preserving jobs, pass laws that are too often unenforced then pass more laws due to the lack of money for enforcement.

It's become a nuthouse. Seriously.

Change isn't always good. As for Californians coming to Idaho and wanting to change Idaho to California, sorry, I just don't see it. I have not done the research, but am guessing that at least 60% of those from CA moving here, are at, or close to, retirement age. And I would also guess that of that 60%, about 30% don't want to recreate what they are running from.

I hope not.

I elected to choose Idaho for that very reason. Open space, room to breath and wonderful people who are unusually friendly and engaging. You can keep that west coast place if that's what trips your trigger. I've found my desired place in Idaho and couldn't be happier with my choice. I can finally relax. No screaming brats, loud subwoofered cars, noisy 4x4's or ATV's running around. My kind of place. To each their own.
How do you like Hagerman? Haven't visited yet but have read and heard wonderful things!

Great post, and I think a lot of us feel that way. I think it used to be a great state (and there are probably some that still think it is), but I love the state that I'm living in now.

I guess I don't understand why posts are being deleted. Yes, this is an Idaho forum, however, there are a lot of posted questions by, and for, Californians. Quite a few of those posts wonder why so many leave CA, or, assume that those relocating from CA will bring the "bad" with them.

Some of us ex-pats from CA are trying to explain. :-)

Agree 100%. If people were coming on here saying Idaho sucks, you should move to CA, then that is possibly a non-productive post.

This is a relocation forum, and people talk about why they are moving to one place or another and often want to know how things compare to their home state.

But, I understand the moderator's concern with this thread and will be more careful in the future.

Your "stats" are rather confusing; are you implying that only 18% do not want to change Idaho? And, that the rest do? The problem with made up stats is that they don't mean a thing. Though, your assertion brings me back to my original question:

Do those of you from Boise (Idaho), see Californians coming over and actively, and aggressively, trying to change anything?

Talk to just about anyone moving here from CA, that is what they will tell you.

all of the californians that i've spoken to moved here for financial and family reasons, not because they didn't agree with golden state politics
