I would like some opinions, I am out of my mind leaving sunny south florida to head to the frigid northwest. I am a single father of a 16 year old girl, and i am looking for a fresh start some place new. My daughter will be a junior next year, and I plan on making a move this summer. I will scouting out the area next month. My main concern is the schools, I want to move where she will be able to acclimate the best. From what I am reading Boise high seems like the best option, does that leave me with only the northend to move to, what area does that district encompass. Florida schools are not so good but she goes to Dreyfoos school of the arts the 57th rank high school in the country. She is a dancer. I will there for 4 days will that be enough for me to make an educated decision. I am open for suggestions.....

Congratulations,I am in FT Lauderdale and I am looking to do the same thing in the spring. You are not crazy change of seasons will be great and out of that god forsaken Humidity. Keep reading this site its great, people info. Anyway schools do not affect me and the wife yet but I am leaning towards North Boise foothills,Star,Middleton, and Kuna. The house prices are great and foreclosures plenty all within a great price range.Just my opinion I hope it helps. Jim (ps. much nicer people by the way by far)

Yeah, you pretty much have to be in the Northend. Keep in mind homes there are significantly more expensive than elsewhere, and you're paying for tiny, older homes on extremely small lots. It's hard to find anything livable for under 225k. Also keep in mind jobs in Boise pay way less than most elsewhere, so while 225k may not seem like a lot it is for the area. If you're lucky enough to find a job.

If money and job aren't a problem, look in the North or East End.

If money is a concern, you might be able to find something in the North End between 28th and 36th street. It's hit and miss for quality, though - you'll be next to a great restoration or trashy rentals on the same block.

Also the area south of State Street and just west of 27th. It's one of the poorest neighborhoods in Boise, though. But it will probably be gentrified in the next 10 years, so you may find a steal.

KDOG, I have been to Boise once and loved it. I do not want to be in the city tho which why I am looking in the Middleton,Kuna,Star and maybe the NE foothills which are supposed to be about 20 minutes out depending on Snow of which they have more than the city.GL Jim

Kdog,

I made the move from Broward to Boise in 2006. Shortly after Hurricane Wilma and after several trips to Boise. I think it was having no electricity for 2weeks after Wilma that closed the deal for me.

My son is a freshman and goes to a West Boise school. I never detected any problems with acclimating, however, he did get a fresh start in middle school. The north end will probably be a totally different feel than WPB.

Feel free to send me a direct message if you want more info from an ex Floridian. Maybe we can meet so you can give me an update on the Turnpike construction or the traffic on Southern Blvd.
