I am not sure that I can list any books are "unpopular" but I know of many that were once popular and then fell out of favor or just never appealed to the general reading public(?)
Poor choice of words on my part. Instead of "unpopular" I meant books that never really made it mainstream. Actually wanted to edit that and was not able to for some reason.

anyway, I am glad the point got across. Thanks all for your great suggestions.

Years ago I read the books of Mervyn Peake ("Titus Groan" and "Gormenghast") which I found wonderfully entertaining, but I never hear about them anymore.

Vladimir Nabokov has written some titles that never enjoyed the popularity of "Lolita", but are still worthwhile reads. I think I liked "Pale Fire" the best, but it requires a peculiar sense of humor to appreciate it.

Cormac McCarthy's "Suttree" and "The Orchard Keeper", among his first novels (1970s), are brilliant and do not now get the attention they deserve.

I thought of another one, too.

John Barth's The Sotweed Factor. I thought it was hysterically funny, and by far the best of his books, but that's just my opinion.

Default A Town Like Alice

This book, by Neville Shute, made a great impression on me when I read it as a teen. Set in the Australian Outback. Must read it again.
