I got myself a kindle, and downloaded the library of Science Fiction and fantasy for Xmas. I have reread Chrysalids by John Wyndham, Odd John by Olaf Stapledon, The New Adam by Stanley Weinbaum, Sixth Column by Heinlein (that madman got damned racist sometimes), Varley's Titan and Red Thunder trilogies, and am working my way through Marie Renault. I rec'mend all, but best of all is Odd John, and Renault.
I have also read for the first time the early works of Robert Sawyer, and Philip Jose Farmer's Jesus on Mars.
For those who like good lit, I rec'mend all except the Heinlein and Farmer. Those I rec'mend to anyone who likes those authors.
I read warnings on the side of packs of cigarettes before I do without.

Pacific Vortex by Clive Cussler. His very first book with the Dirk Pitt character. And I am having a hard time staying interested. Probably because it's the first book.

I read Drowning Ruth a million years ago -- or when it first came out -- and loved it. (I'd like to think that I'd love it now, too.) I then looked into other books by the same author -- my word of advice to you is "don't bother." Drowning Ruth seems to be her one hit.
