I think a cool thing for a 6 year old is to take them to the library and let them pick out a few books on their own. I remember when I was around that age and how excited I would get at all the possibilities, it was overwhelming and fun at the same time.
"Stuart Little" also by E.B. White, might be a hit. It's about a mouse born into a human family - book is much better than various screen adaptions.
Other authors that work well for read-alouds at this age include Laura Ingalls Wilder, Beverly Cleary, Carolyn Haywood, Robert Lawson, and many others. See Jim Trelease's "The Read-Aloud Handbook" for copious suggestions, and also talk with your local children's librarian, who can offer suggestions as well as booklists.

Glad you're raising a child who likes books.
Excellent suggestions, plus you can search at Amazon, just be sure to read the 1-2 star reviews because some children's books have really bratty/snarky talking kids that I would have never wanted my kids/grandkids to read.
We homeschooled out daughter and were always looking for resources. There are several good resource books for homeschoolers and also several library websites.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just checked the book "Stuart Little". Another great classic book for little ones. The Little House collection by Laura is also very nice. The author list your recommended are a great resource too. Really appreciated.
I just finished a Kindle Christmas freebie called The North Pole Challenge - about a 10 year old boy who finds out he's an elf.
Definitely not classic literature, but it was fun - except for the cliff-hanger ending
Miss Piggle Wiggle - a series of books, all with a good positive approach. Easy to read.
Twig by Elizabeth Orton Jones. It's been a favorite over many generations in our family.
And one I loved as a kid, James and the Giant Peach.
Along the Stuart Little lines; Wind in The Willows and there is the Borrowers series.
Winnie the Pooh is always fun.
