I'm on page 11. I just can't find the pleasure in this book and it is my book club book for the month. It must get better, right?
Can someone please inspire me to keep on reading? I just don't get the hype right now.
I wish I could inspire you but... I was hooked well before page 11 so I don't know what to tell you. Just plow through and see how you're feeling by about, say, page 30. If you don't get all the comic book and other pop-culture references, you might keep The Google handy. Knowing some Spanish helps too.
It's the best novel that I have read in a long time.
Junot Diaz deserves every award that he will receive in life. I am about to start his previous book "Drown". Can't wait...
I picked up this book at the library, and read a couple of pages, and put it back on the shelf. I was completely unimpressed. If I remember correctly, it was written in non-standard literary form, and I don't have the patience to "translate" a book into proper English. I could never read "Huckleberry Finn", either, or any other books that mainly consist of words ranging from "sho 'nuff" to "noam sain" in the non-dialog declarative text.
i thought it was okay. i like that it has a unique voice, but not in my top 10 (or top 50).
This is pretty much my take on it, as well.
