The only novels that ever got me racing home to read it were "The Stand" by Stephen King, and a couple of Tom Clancey books, "Red Storm Rising", "Clear And Present Danger", and "Without Remorse".
I also remember reading "A Child Called It", and could not put it down. Literally. I started reading it in the morning, and finished it late the same night. It tore my guts out, but I couldn't stop reading it.

A Child Called It would be far too depressing for me,will look into Tom Clancey, but King is out, thanks.

If you enjoy techno/military thrillers, Clancy is the author for you. I would start with "Without Remorse", which takes place prior to the later Jack Ryan novels like "Hunt For Red October" (which was as good as the movie) and "Clear And Present Danger" (which was MUCH better than the movies they made it into.)

Larry Nivens "The Legacy of Heorot", You wont be able to put it down.
Don't think this would be my cup of tea, judging by one 2-star reviewer ~" Brutal action, excessively brutal in description of destruction of the helpless, adding nothing to the story value. The "plot" was hard to find. Not sure if I found it. Sex and sexual inuendo was prevalent,"
I do not want detailed brutality/gore,or profanity or sex.
Put this and Phantoms on reserve at my library, thanks!
