I also really like GK Chesterton's writing style. His best book in my opinion is Orthodoxy but it's subject matter is a bit heavy. He also has a very interesting book called What's Wrong with the World, which is often overlooked but I find it a pretty amazing read because it was written over 100 years ago and most of his predictions (the natural outcome of value systems that were rearing up in his life time) are spot on.

Quote:
“There is not really any courage at all in attacking hoary or antiquated things, any more than in offering to fight one’s grandmother. The really courageous man is he who defies tyrannies young as the morning and superstitions fresh as the first flowers. The only true free-thinker is he whose intellect is as much free from the future as from the past.”
― G.K. Chesterton, What's Wrong with the World

The writer that always makes me pause, and "chew" on the words before I move ahead, is Pat Conroy. Also, the book I just recommended by Monica Wood (One in a Million Boy), had me pausing to appreciate the way she wrote.

I forgot about One in a Million Boy. That was a really good book.
I just finished Crossing to Safety and while it was not my most favorite book ever, it was beautifully written.
I didn't read the whole thread, but I remember being dazzled by Love in the Time of Cholera. Yes, it's translated into English but I remember thinking how beautiful it was and I could only imagine how amazing it must be in the original Spanish.
