I just looked her up in Wikipedia. I remember about 2/3 of the titles she wrote as Victoria Holt, which means I actually read them, but they were mostly so long ago I don't remember what they were about. My favorite writer of the gothics is Madeleine Brent, who actually was a man.

There may be only two or three of her books I haven't read. I don't think I could pull down a favorite, but a few standouts are Shadow of the Lynx, The Shivering Sands, and The Secret Woman, which was the first novel of hers I read, from my mom's Readers Digest condensed novel collection and snuck under the covers at night.

Now there's an author I forgot about. I read all of her works, I seem to recall, as a HS student, and loved them -- especially the Merlin series. My favorite, too, had to be The Mistress of Mellyn. I may just have to check these out again now I remember reading them, and enjoying them, all of those years ago.

I read many of her books as a teenager and in my early 20's... had forgotten about her, too! Getting old, I guess!

Look her up in Wikipedia. She wrote about 200 books under a variety of pen names!

One of my other favorite writers at that time was Laura Black, who wrote several gothics set in Scotland. I tried looking her up with Google, but the closest thing I could find was a list of books at Amazon - and there are apparently a lot of Laura Blacks out there writing about all kinds of things! But the one I remember wrote Glendraco and Lord of Ravenburn, among others.

Another good writer was Robert Neill, but I couldn't find him anywhere but Amazon.UK - the titles were right, but the pub dates were way off. The first one I read I got from my aunt when I was about 12, which would have made it the later 50's, and she'd had it put away for a long time. He wrote gothics about the times of witch burnings in England, and they were fascinating.

Default hi

I've loved victoria holt since I was 12 and this was due to my mother who read her novels at the time.it has been difficult to get hold of most of the books but out of all I've read so far I was particularly touched by The Queen's confession (story of marie antoinette).for me that one is definitely the best
