So how many books do you reckon you read in a year?

I would think close to 50. I was thinking around one a week...plus or minus! I know there are some books that take longer and some that I breeze right through..so fifty sounded good!!!and the good thing is that the majority all come from the library. or maybe the used book sale from the library friends. I don't go to borders!

It never occurred to me to count. Depends on how busy my life is. I can always say "not as many as I would have liked"....Between work, kids, other activities sometimes I don't get to read for weeks at a time. When my kids were littler I read more (naps and early bedtimes helped). As they got older, there was homework, sporting practices and games, now work etc etc. I imagine when they are gone, I'll be reading more again but I'm not wishing that time away either.

I too can always say "Not as many as I would have liked" and I don't have kids. So many books, so little time!

I think I average out to one a week, maybe a little more, so I'm in the 50+ range, like sgresident. And that's exactly why I go to my library - cheaper!

Default I love to read!

I read an average of one book per week as well... I'm really glad to see that others read just as much (or more) than I!

Last year I started a reading log. I read 60 last year. Not sure where I am so far this year, but it is about 5 a month.

About 3 or 4 a week, more on vacations. Sometimes I will read one almost every day depending how good it is. I am a bit of an Insomniac so reading has become something which keeps me sane.

just a note, since I cancelled my newspapers subscriptions..I read the paper online(it is much quicker) and cheaper. this gives me time to read each morning..when I used to go through two newspapers! I would be lost without reading books!

I have been known to read even 700-800 page books in two days and, since I'm always reading, I'd have to say I read 100 or more books a year, especially in the last ten years or so. Of course, those aren't necessarily 'new' books, as I love to reread books that I love. Which is why I prefer to buy rather than get my books from the library. If I decide I want to reread Lord of the Rings or the Harry Potter books or any Stephen King novel, (or anything else I've read in the last 20 years!) they are all right there in my bookcase.

I just reorganized that bookcase yesterday and found about 2 dozen duplicate books that I shipped off to the library for their 'used book' store. I end up with duplicates from time to time because I have so many books I don't always remember when I go out whether I already have the book I'm looking at. At last count, I have something like 350 books, not counting dictionaries, Bibles and cookbooks.
