Hello,
We are moving to boston and considering newton as a place to live. We have two boys, the oldest starting kindergarten this fall. We love project based learning and are interested in learning about some of the elementary schools in the area. We would love a school that's progressive, fosters wonderful ethics and a love of learning, and is obviously good academically. We would like a nice family community with involved parents. We also need a preschool for our younger boy.

Would love to hear ideas and suggestions...thanks!

Are you looking for private school for both? The Newton Montessori School serves kids 15 months up to 6th grade. If you're looking for public elementary, I don't know much about the schools in Newton.

I'm not sure about problem based learning, but I grew up in Newton and it's a great great place to live; it's got the perfect mix of city and suburbia, plus it's 15 minutes away from Boston. It has affluent parts, but is also quite diverse, much more so than nearby Wellesley, Weston etc. The schools are some of the best in the country, and early childhood ed is plentiful, albeit expensive.

I agree-- Newton Montessori Please wait... is a superb preschool and elementary with very individualized learning typical of Montessori. They cater to working families, with extended day until 6:00.
