So I'll start a new job in a few weeks. I currently live in Wakefield and will be working Charlestown, very close to Sullivan Square. My new job will have free parking, so I'm tempted to drive.

Am I completely out of my mind?

Is the idea of driving during normal commuter hours down I-93 the true horror show that everyone makes it out to be?

The past few days, I've been looking at it, and Google Maps/MapQuest/Apple Maps routinely have the drive as being 25-30 minutes during the rush hour (leave at 7:30-8 AM). Need to be at work 8:30.

Are all these map services grossly mistaken and am I truly looking at an over an hour commute?

How is it this busy during commute hours if people are routinely doing this every day if it's this crazy? Or is this slightly overblown, and I might actually be looking at a 25-30 minute commute for a 12 mile drive?

For the record, I drove up I-93 during rush hour Boston to Wakefield, and that took about a half hour yesterday during the teeth of the commute. It was certainly far from ideal, but it also wasn't a parking lot. Is this what I could expect going the opposite way in the morning?
