Leo Varadkar is set to become the Republic of Ireland's next taoiseach (prime minister) after winning the leadership of the Fine Gael party. The 38-year-old will become the first gay taoiseach and will also be the country's youngest ever leader. He will succeed Enda Kenny as leader of the centre-right party within weeks. If the new PM were to visit Boston next March, would the Allied War Veterans Council (manages the parade) vote to ban him and prevent him from marching?

The Allied War Veterans Council only bans gay groups not individual gay people. Yes it's a backwards and outdated policy, especially in a place like Massachusetts. It amounts to discrimination.

However I doubt they'd care if the PM of Ireland wanted to march (not sure why he would).

No one should be honored in a parade based solely on what you do in the bedroom.

The Irish PM would be honored as the Irish PM.

Of course being gay or straight isn't just about what does or doesn't do in a bedroom.

Unfortunately (for some) it isn't. If it were, this would never have come up as an issue in the first place.

It isn't, because it isn't. That is not unfortunate, that is reality. Sexual orientation is not just about (or even about) sexual acts or actions.

Once again, for some...

Homosexuals had been marching for years without issue.

Not for some. For all. Sexual orientation and sexual actions are two different things, by their definitions.

OK, then let's have a "Straight" float next year.

Why are you so fixated on bedroom acts?

You really don't think there have been heteronormative groups marching in St Patricks Day parades?
