Hi all,

I'm considering taking a job in Longmont that pays $14/hr and am wondering if it's feasible for a person to live there on this pay? I currently live in a Virginia town with a relatively low cost of living and make $20/hr, so the pay cut and higher cost of living worries me a little. I know I'll have to find roommates on Craigslist or something, and while not ideal, I've done it in the past and wouldn't mind it again. I could also get a part time job on the side to earn a little extra income. Would there be another town that would be cheaper with a short commute?

The job seems like a good opportunity for me to change fields, and hopefully has more room for advancement than my current position. Also, from my research it seems like I'd really enjoy the area and fit in better with the more liberal climate compared to the conservative area I'm from.

Thanks!

Do you have any expenses like college debt or a car payment?

Will your employer provide health insurance or public transportation assistance?

I have a $300 car payment. They do provide health insurance, but I'm not sure about public transportation assistance. I've considered getting a bike and biking to work if I end up living a reasonable distance away. That could help lower my gas usage. I have ~$10,000 in savings.

Right now the Longmont bus is free within the city, so that is a possibility too. The other towns near Longmont are generally more expensive, so you would most likely want to live within the city.
