Melbourne Beach area help...LOTS!

Finding that "right" spot to live is tough with usually some trades offs. If you want quiet and peaceful, often that means more driving. Same goes for better schools that tend to be in more expensive areas, but not always.
Finding a good, reliable and timely remodeler in Florida has been a challange for me over the years. Again, usually involves trade offs. Reliable can mean expensive. The reasonable ones tend to overbook and become unreliable.
Do share what you find out there.

We live on the south end of Melbourne Beach and absolutely love it here, it's quite and secluded, our backyard is the ocean and very seldom do we see anyone there. However, we are retired and kids are on their own, so the occasional long drives are not a problem for us. As for remodeling, my honest advise -- Buy something that has already been remodeled. I used to flip houses for a living, did that for 21 years in South Florida, Orlando and Tn. When we came here and purchased our home 4 years ago, we got a bargain, however the house needed some remodeling/changes to make it work for us, been in the business for many years it didn't worry us - big mistake! This town is the worst place that I have ever seen for hiring anyone to do work in your house. We went through 3 different General Contractors for the initial work, the first one took part of our money and never came back, second one quit half way into the job claiming that he was loosing money, again took part of our money, finally the third one finished the job. Based on my experience, construction people here are unreliable, extremely poor workmanship and expensive, they will promise the sky and the stars but won't deliver the dirt on their shoes. After being here for 4 years, we haven't been able to finish our house. At this point we have called 16 painters, only 6 came to look at the work, 3 gave us estimates and non showed up to do the job, similar situation with the landscaper and the gutter companies. I wish you the best of luck, but again think twice about getting into a home project in this town.

Odd. It sounds like you've had a lot of trouble with contractors. It's also odd that you don't mention getting recommendations from neighbors or businesses in the area. Maybe there is a relationship there.

Florida is the best state, where you can enjoy all the cities. All the cities are so beautiful in florida. I think you decided the best option to spend some days in florida.
