Well, he doesn't live in any kind of palace or mansion and he doesn't drive around in fancy cars or eat in exclusive restaurants. Of my four trips to India, twice I have visited Dharamsala (McLeod Ganj to be more precise where the exiled Tibetans live) and the place he lives in looks like a run down college dorm. So, I'm not sure what you mean by "luxury."
As a Buddhist I must declare that I do believe - indeed! - it is
'a superior religion' ... that is why I am a Buddhist.
It is good that a Buddhist leader has come out in favor of marriage equality. This is an example of such Buddhist respect for all people.
