Trying to understand "hiri" and "ottapa". The way I understand is "hiri" means sense of shame and "ottapa" means fear of blame. Any deep insight on it?

Quote:
The difference between hri (self-respect/Hiri) and apatrapya (decorum/Ottapa) is that hiri means to refrain from unwholesome actions due to one's own conscious, while Ottapa means to refrain from unwholesome actions to avoid being reproached by [respectable] others [1][2]

The scripture of the Abhidharma-samuccaya states:

What is hri? It is to avoid what is objectionable as far as I see it and its function is to provide a basis for refraining from non-virtuous actions.
