Hi

I was wondering what the public transportation system is like in Buffalo?

is it reliable, is it easy to get around the city without a car etc..

The website is for the NFTA http://metro.nfta.com/

You can get around in the city and inner suburbs -- go to the 2nd ring and beyond, there are basically only commuter buses.

My husband and I drove in to the city for almost 30 years together and then one of us took a bus to our work from the first work..... it can be done. But.... The routes have to go where you want and they change at inconvenient times.. at any quarter of the year ( early Dec, early mar, early June, early Sept) routes change.

I live about a 10 min walk from lasalle station, but my job is downtown. It's great, I get about a 25 minute walk in everyday and it beats a gym membership. Plus we are down to one car and save about $2000 / yr (post tax) on automotive expenditures. Definitely the way to go depending on where the work is.

It works pretty well if you are in the city. Buses run every 15 minutes for most of the day (sometimes even more frequently).

The suburbs were for the most part not built in a way that makes public transportation feasible. You can get to a few destinations like malls, but there is no network of buses there the way there is in the city.

If you live in the city and work downtown, to me it is a no-brainer to take the bus or train and avoid wasting time and money on parking.
