Yes, Biasone and Leo Ferris I believe first tested it out at the old Blodgett Vocational HS(now an elementary school) in the Near West Side.

To bring this back to Buffalo, I believe that the city had a couple of pro Basketball team before the creation of the NBA as well. In fact, Ferris helped to start the Buffalo Bison team in the American Basketball League in 1946 and that team is actually now the Atlanta Hawks.
