Hi everyone. I'm hoping that you can help me w/a question about the utility companies and suppliers. I've been on both websites and noticed that i have a choice in either going w/the utility company as my supplier also or i can choose a different supplier or marketer while having the utilities delivered thru the utility companies.

My question is: is there anyone who has chosen not to use a utility company for both service and delivery? for those who haven't, why? and is there really any benefit in doing this? (like saving $$)

I

In most cases: National Fuel is gas. National Grid is electric. You need to check where your electric is, as some is NYSEG - and they serve electric AND gas ( depending on where you are). I happen to have National Fuel and NYSEG electric.

The choice month is about Nov/Dec. You get a packet from the company and you have to research and choose the person to buy the fuel from. The local company still bills and charges you for delivery ( so you get 2 bills). W/NYSEG, I have an option to have a fixed price or variable in their own fuel and also to use wind/alternative energy.

I have had friends pick to go with other companies; mnost went back to the main company. One got stuck in a pyramid scam: he got low rates as long as he sold more people on signing on. Watch out for the reliability and company reputation.

All of the "companies" that have tried to sell me gas seemed "fly by night". I don't know anyone that does buisness with them and have heared of people that lost money when a gas supplier went belly up.
