As a Buffalonian now living in NYC - I was able to see both perspectives in the article. The central theme of the article addresses a common yearning among New York City dwellers to live someplace simpler and less expensive. "They imagine new lives for themselves in a kinder, cheaper, easier, more manageable mini–New York" as the article states.

Good article - but I didn't get the impression it was very positive. There was some positive, but a lot of negative too. I thought this statement was particularly insulting. "you can drive anywhere in Buffalo in ten minutes or less, a fact that was repeated to me often by local boosters, including the mayor, which always struck me as odd—like claiming the best thing about living in a ghost town is that there’s never a line at the movie theater."

At the very least, the article shed some important light on Buffalo's assets and good quality of life to an influential audience.

My favorite quote from the article is this one, which is something everyone should take to heart:

“Just remember that there are other places, and other people live there, with perfectly happy lives.”
