What do you recommend for a personal bank. I don't have a ton of money but was hoping to find a branch that does not charge for every transaction i make. Any suggestions?
.
I really dislike Bank of America. They suck! Personal bad experiences with them. I've heard a few things about Wachovia, which I'm not really sure about them either.
I'm happy with First Niagara. They have a variety of different accounts, you can call and a rep will explain them all. The one I have gives me both checking and savings, and there is no "per transaction" fee and I don't even need to maintain a minimum balance.
There is not a Wachovia branch in this area as far as I know.
I have used Bank of America for nearly five years now, and have not had a single problem. I use them because I can find a branch or ATM nearly anywhere in the country.
I would not consider HSBC to be a national bank at all, they are only in about ten states.
I have Bank of America also, their online accounting and keep the change programs keep me from switching. I had First Niagara when it was Lockport Savings, for a number of years. They are ok, but you can't find their ATMs out of the area, and they did not have many perks when I had them. My mortgage is through HSBC, and it because of their interest rate.

I've been very happy with HSBC for many years, so I guess that would be my suggestion
