I think I have found a little niche in the home improvement category.... That could really do with some updating ...this part of peoples exterior of their house has not changed in the last 75 years...people have tried to tweak it through out the years w disaterious outcomes some of the times.....

So without saying what my idea is ...every property has one and I think my price point will be from $375- $1800 per house to update theirs.....

My main question is once i have finalized the design of my product, what is the next phase... How do i protect my designs , materials...etc...

say my idea is to change front door knobs from round to square handles w multiple colors and designs.... how do i protect my design ideas...etc...

Next my idea also calls for possibly doing other updates that would match my existing idea...should i just stick to the first project or should i add in the other product.. to maximize my sales
.my concern is the 2 items are produced usually by 2 different types of manufacturing company's Right now i can not find any company on the web offering these 2 services combined......
so i figure when i go to market this idea i could have logistical problems trying to find distributors and buyers ?????

Any help would be appreciated..........

I would not even try to come out with any new home improvement products. There are thousands of products already available and only a fraction of those are offered for sale in retail stores. And these are made by big companies which are firmly entrenched with the retailers.

For example look at all the door locks (lock sets) made by Schlage on their web site. You see these on homes, schools, businesses, and government doors. Yet only a small fraction of their products can be seen at the local home improvement stores.

You do have a good idea though. That would be to do a "makeover" to just the front of a home. A lot can be done by moving unsightly electrical wires, replacing the front door, maybe do something with the windows, and paint. Then add a bit of landscaping and presto!

I think a dramatic change could be had in some cases for 2k to 3k.

However you would need to be a licensed contractor in my area to do this work. And a licensed electrician would be required to move electrical wires. Or licensed plumber to move pipes. Etc.

Real estate sale people are BIG on this type of thing for selling a home. First impressions.
