First of all I did not even know who Hannah Montana was until tickets went on sale for her at Gwinnett Arena. The tickets were gone in like 3 minutes and many a parent walked away upset and empty handed. They got even more irate when it came to light that "ticket brokers" - which are just legalized scalpers- had manged to buy huge blocks of the best tickets to resell at up to 10 times face value! You had nutty suburban parents paying $2000 for a Hannah Montana ticket! We also had several phony tickets sold on Craigs List. First of all, I am not against ticket scalping. I have no problem with it. I had it down to an art form as a high school student in the 70s. Back then, I would sleep out all night by the ticket office (there was no Ticketmaster then) and snap up 20 tickets to hot shows like Bob Dylan (my most profitable believe it or not!), Paul McCartney, Creedence, Peter Frampton and Rolling Stones. I would sell them using classified ads (no internet then) for what I thought I could get for them. That is what you call free enterprise in my view. BUT in this modern day, it is my view that, if people really want a FAIR method of buying and selling tickets, we need to go to an auction type system. It could work something like this:

1. Hannah Montana show is announced.
2. People call on the phone or go on line and give their credit card and info and the BEST price they will pay for a seat.
3. The day before the show, all seats are assingned based upon the best offer you gave.
4. You then log on with your password and print your ticket. If you don't have the internet, you call in and enter your passcode and you will be told where your seats are and where to pick up your tickets.
Such a system could be set up for preferences such as "___ number of seats together" if you are taking another person or people and "Maximum distance from stage" so that if your bid fails to land a seat in an acceptable area to you, it is cancelled as opposed to giving you a seat in the back.
This is REALLY how tickets should be sold.

Really shows how dumb some people are. Spending big $$$$ to see some Disney nonsense. They should be getting ready for the energy crisis instead.

Do you ever go to a movie?

Do you ever go to a play?

In Las Vegas, our showrooms are filled with very happy people who are paying $100's to see a particular performer.

I believe the term is "entertainment"

They don't pay that much. I saw The Ohio Players there for $35 a ticket!

All my money goes to property taxes, no money for anything else. My "entertainment" was bowling till they closed the bowling alley. I refuse to pay more per hour for "entertainment" than my income.

Wow! I'm sorry you don't get out that much

Well, the reality is, many, many people do go to shows, the theatre, movies, cruises (vacations) - many go to Atlantic City or Las Vegas to the Casino Resorts

AND, they have a good time while buying those tickets

I hope things get better for you

I think what I read was that part of the issue being some parents had signed up and paid for the fan membership which usually gets you presale tickets. Apparently that didn't pan out for many. They still couldn't get tickets.
Boggles my mind that those shows created such a frenzy. Glad I have a son.
That being said, we have paid a lot to get amazing seats at a concert. I just did in fact the other day. It is worth every penny - we have such a fantastic time. And we've learned that when you pay a lot to get a good seat you are surrounded by others who did as well and are there to really see the show. Not get plastered in the cheap seats. When going to an event with a 14 year old, that factors in

The library is free!

I can't enjoy a show for $100+ (or over $1000 like for Hannah Monana!) knowing that would feed, clothe, and get health care and education for a child for months in some part of the world. Makes me a little sick to my stomach.

Apparently some of these parents don't know how to say "no" to their children. $1k+ for kiddie level talent...not real bright.
