Hello< I've seen this question asked before but no clear answer. I have been receiving unemployment for a year now, (while looking for a job the entire time), and have received an extension when my benefit money ran out. However, on october 16 my claim expired (after 1 year), and I received a check for the last week but that's it- no other information. But I still have over 2k left on my benefit amount. I don't know what to do, and I'm really scared. If anyone knows I'd be really appreciative. Thank you.

Have you tried calling them and asking? 1-800-300-5616 (English) It's YOUR MONEY! Many folks forget that Unemployment compensation is NOT a freebie from the state like welfare, it is you getting the money you paid to EDD, when you worked, back. In fact, you and I, and everyone who has ever worked for a check have paid much more into *unemployment insurance* than we'll ever collect! You are only collecting a portion of what you've paid into it.

I think the amount remaining means that you have to requalify or refile your claim to receive the remainder. (I hope for your sake.) Contact them via the phone number on your statement and ask them how to proceed. (Yeah, I understand, it's late in the day and you're not likely to get any answer from them today so you decided to ask the forum. ) Lucky for you tomorrow is a work day so you can get on the line to them early and get the answer straight from the horse's mouth.

I called and the woman said everything was great and that I was going to be paid. ANd then today I received a letter in the mail that my claim was invalid due to section 1277. I am SO confused and scared. I'm already late on my car payment and can't ask my parents for any more help. I emailed them and will call again tomorrow
