My dad just passed away a few weeks ago and my mom and I are talking about moving closer to family. We have relatives in Grass Valley, Nevada City, Volcano, Jackson and many other areas. Does anyone have any areas that they love in No Calif and is it possible to still find an acre or two? Housing in WC is averaging about $700K but who knows the price of California land these days. I love vineyards and woods and so does mom (retired) I would have to find a job in accounting as I am retired but still too young to stay that way.

I currently live on 5 acres in Penryn which is near Nevada City and Grass Valley, it is also commutable to sacramento. We bought a 2000 sf home on 5 acres for 700k. Also look at Nevada City and Grass Valley, Auburn, Loomis, Newcastle, and colfax.

The areas around Volcano are also great up in the pines, look for relatively cheap acreage in pioneer, pine grove, and volcano. There are some great areas up there.

I'm sorry about your loss. Regarding rural areas. There is a stretch that runs along Mt Diablo in between Walnut Creek and Brentwood that has that rural environment.

For bang for the buck, check out Yosemite Lake Bark, Coursegold, Dunlap, in the Sierra Foothill above Fresno. Yosemite Lake Park could be 200k for a home on acredge. There will be of jobs in accounting down the hill in Fresno

Check out Plymouth in Amador county. It's in the Sierra foothills just east of Sacramento. The Shenandoah wine country is nearby - just to the east.
