Classified as a riot-control agent and banned for use in war by Article I.5 of the Chemical Weapons Convention, pepper spray is meant to be used against violent attackers who are resisting arrest and threatening physical harm to others. That doesn't apply to the passive protesters at U.C. Davis.

It's disturbing to see how many seem to believe in thuggery rather than true policing.



Clearly the "protections" in the Constitution are meaningless to them. I wonder what other rights they're equally as willing to see ignored or destroyed.

Somewhat apropo, Ben Franklin said, "those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither".

I find it incredibly odd, and sad, that there are those who think civil disobedience should stop as soon as the security forces say it should.

Two shining examples of civil disobedience in our country are, the first Tea Party, and of course the Civil Rights movement.

If the first Tea Party, the patriots dressed as indians had stopped when the night watchman, or the ship captain told them to, would we have the US of A as we know it today.

If the young black men had left the lunch counter in Woolworths when they were told to, if Rosa Parks had moved to the back of the bus when the driver told her to, would we have the relative equality we have today?

Those on this forum and elsewhere (FOX) who denigrate the protestors, and complain that they were/are breaking the law, remind me of my parents who strongly criticized Martin Luther King, calling him a Communist, and criticized the black marchers at Birmingham. They were of the opinion that the blacks were breaking the law and deserved the fire hoses and german shepherds.

Interesting that some of the terminology used about the Davis incident is similar to what was said about the civil rights marchers.

Now, my parents were conservatives, in fact, more conservative than the Czar of All Russias. I see that things have not changed much, for some.

I love the picture!!! There is only one small correction that needs to be made, replace the white guy in the police uniform with an illegal alien because as we all know white people are lazy and the illegal aliens are the hardest working people since god!

That doesn't change the fact pepper spray is to be used for defensive, not offensive, purposes by law enforcement.
