Uncle Phil has apologized for his comments. It's bad for his endorsements.

I'm reminded of the Papa John's and several other chains that said they're going to make most of their staff work just under the hour limit to avoid paying a portion of their health insurance. Their brand suffers and in the end cost them more from the diminished revenue than they were going to save.

It's hard to really find sympathy for people who are financially secure complaining about paying taxes. If they really have problem making ends meet after taxes, then that is because they aren't living within reasonable means and that isn't the fault of taxation.

We get that a lot of people don't like California's tax rates, there is no need to keep repeating it over and over.

.highnlite-----As I have stated many times, and have had those who can't do math react rather violently, The difference between CA tax burden and any other state is no more than 4%
You try to make it sound like 4% is just a drop in the bucket, and no one should complain for a few pennies in taxes.

4% may not sound like much to you, but to Phil it cost him $920,000 last year to live in California by your reasoning. He says his total tax bill, is taking over 63% of his income.

It is not just the state income taxes that are hitting him. It is $920,000 here and some more there, and it really ads up.

People that have money, did not get it by throwing it away. Phil has a few more potential good years. Add them together, and he does not want to see millions of dollars taken from him. He would rather invest those millions, in an intelligent way, and have something to show for it.

This is the kind of decision a lot of intelligent people are making.

It's not 4%. Same old lie. A fourth grade math student will tell you that the difference between a 12% tax rate and an 8% tax rate is not 4%. It is 50%. Libs lie. Nothing but lies.

Californian's pay 30-40% more taxes than those living in other states.

Only the loosers fall for this class warefare stuff. They can never see themselves making the effort to be financially susccessful. So they are envious of and hate those who do have what it takes.

What saddens me is that they want their children to be loosers too. They can't imnagine that their own kids can become successful. They say stuff like "money is not success". So they have no problem supporting stupid tax rates that will harm their own kids.

Hopefully their kids will be smarter and grow up to disavow this nonsnense preached by their 1960's hippie parents.

I did OK in math.

Bill is not a loser. He made $1 million last year. He pays 8% in state taxes.
Joe is not a loser. He made a million also. But poor Joe lives in a state with a 12% tax rate.

Bill pays $80,000 in state taxes.
Joe pays $120,000.

The difference is NOT 4%. Joe in fact pays 50% more taxes than Bill.
Will that educate the guy who keeps making the false statement that Joe only pays 4% more that Bill? No it won't. He knows what he's doing. And he'll keep doing it. And the koolaide drinkers will agree with him.

Both Bill and Joe should move to Texas or Florida where there are no state income taxes.

All you envious people saying "cry me a river" and "move out of the US" would be singing the same tune as Phil if the govt took 63% of your money, I'm sure.

Regardless of the number of zeros Phil makes, 63% sure does seem high.

I'd say Phil is paying more than his "fair share".
