Please tell me about this city if you know. Like living expenses, safety, transportation etc. Can i survive without a car there?. How about the living expnses, can i rent a studio for 500$?. I am an international student graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia (Missouri state). Please help me.

Thank you very much.

Small town, surrounded by farms, San Andreas fault runs through it. Has probably gotten expensive... Close to Monterey, San Francisco and skiing. a tad warm in the summer, nearby San Juan Batista is one of the more interesting towns in America. skiing is close,, due east

You cannot survive in CA without a car... Although a bicycle will get you everywhere around Hollister except when it rains.

Lotta Mexicans.

I am pretty sure that Hollister is the earthquake capital of California They also have a pretty good 4x4 wheeling park that my DH dragged me too. I have been through there a few times and the downtown seemed pretty quaint but that was a few years ago.

Little downtown area is cute. Rest is standard, lower-middle-class suburbia. And don't believe the close-to-the-Bay-Area spiel from the chamber of commerce; it's a world apart.

Hollister is not really Northern California, but inland Central Cal, and the Safeway you are talking about is a great store and in a good location. Very friendly and up-to-date. We only have three grocery stores here. Our population is about 34,000 and more than half are hispanic. The city is trying to go upwardly mobile but is still having great growing pains. Some want it to stay small others want it to grow because of the many new housing superbs that have popped up.

I don't think that $500 per month will get you anything nice. The best it can get you is a room shared with a family. Those are usually in nice neighborhoods. One bed apartments are at least 750 to 850 and two bedrooms slightly more.

I think the job is good enough to take but you may want to check out other areas around it but from Gilroy your travel will be about 30 minutes and from Morgan Hill it will be about 50 mins.

I have lived here 6 years and I truly wish I never came. It does have safter schools and I have a elementary school age child. I come from a large California city and this is nothing like a california city. It feels like a midwestern rural town. I have to buy most of my items from online as this town has little to offer. The restaurants are few and not very good for my taste and there is little for children to do here.

You can definitely get around town with a bike and a bus pass for further travel. I know plenty of people who do that. There is a main bus station in Gilroy, 30 minutes away, which takes you anywhere. Greyhound also stops there on top of local buses too. Gilroy has a lot more and also much better shopping.

I would just say yes to your question because Safeway is probably the best place to work in Hollister if you ask my opinion.

P.

Hollister is a small town with an agricultural base. It is close to fine areas to visit, such as San Juan Batista, Santa Cruz, Monterey, the Pinnacles, Yosemite, and you can get to San Francisco in a couple of hours. I don't know about the housing though. The San Andreas Fault runs right through town, every once in a while the town shakes pretty fairly. If you are a bicyclist, or a mtn bicyclist it is a good area to ride.

Apartly you didn't visit east of Highway 25 heading towards Tres Pinos National Park.
We are a world apart from the other side of town and I'm pround of my rather nice style of living. And we are close to the Bay Area (within 1 hr drive and 2 hr drive to San Francisco). Of course, our town is a world apart, in that we run at a slower pace than Silicon Valley, which is what makes living here so nice.

Smile Hollister One-Bedroom Apartment

Hi! I am a Filipino teacher who will be teaching in one of the district schools in Hollister. This coming August, my family and I will be relocating to Hollister, Cal. I was granted an H1-B visa (working visa), thus Ill be the sole breadwinner in a family of three. I'll be earning around 46,000 annually. Will this salary suffice for a decent one-bedroom apartment? I would appreciate it if anybody could help me suggest a small, one bed but decent apartment for a family of three. A link to Hollsiter apartments will also be helpful. Is it also advisable to live in Gilroy? How much are one-bed apartments in Girloy? This is really urgent. Thanks!

Ok,

Craigslist is a good resource. Check here: Hollister apts

While 46K is not much it really depends on your families needs. Housing is the most expensive thing. So if you can manage in a 1 bdrm you will save money there. Gas is really expensive now in CA. So I don't know what you plan to do for transportation. If you can ride a bike to work you can save money again. I think the rest will depend on how you budget your money.
