Sorry, but smog check is statewide. No such thing as a county that does not require it.

I wouldnt know, but I have heard that there are scurrilous smog check places that will game things to make it look like you passed, even if you dont.

I currently am saving my pennies to pay for replacement of sensors that may have burned out. Gawd knows I have probably replaced a dozen sensors for various issues with my 2002 Jeep Liberty. Doesnt surprise me at all that my check engine sensor and a couple of the smog system sensors may be bad.

Calaveras County doesn't require smog tests. It's actually not a county thing, but an air pollution control district which decides.

And a riding test. The motorcycle safety class, if successfully completed, will waive that, but otherwise you'll have to buy or borrow a motorcycle or scooter and take the DMV's parking-lot riding test.

It's also worth noting that motorcycles don't require smog checks.

Terribly sorry to hear of your plight, DebbieMarie. Maybe it's time to go back to Oklahoma where things are less of a struggle. California has so many loopholes you must jump through, you're better off back home where you can probably keep driving your car without worrying about a smog cert.

If you just moved here your car still has Oklahoma Plates?

California only allows so many days to register when you move here... the smog test documents your presence...

Sounds like it could get very expensive over all even if you move to an area that does not require bi-annual smog you still will need one since you are coming from out of State... at least this is my understanding.

As for smog... many vehicles that don't pass will with a new Catalytic Convertor...

Heres a map link showing regional requirements.
