I think that you've romanticized a lot of things and are in for a rude awakening if you move here.

I'm 23 and in bracket c. I would consider LA because my boyfriend is from LA. Weather in LA beats the hell out of anywhere on the east coast and I like that it's cheaper than DC.

I would only do it if I could commute by public transportation like on the new Santa Monica-Downtown LA Line they're building. Never doing the suburbia commuter crap again.

I think I'd feel completely burnt out if I spent 5 minutes around you in person.

What do you hope to do in California? If you are in the IT/Internet programming field then you should hit paydirt somewhere between SF and Silicon Valley. You may score good jobs if you are in the investment finance or banking sectors. That's just Northern California.

If you have dreams of becoming an actor or working as a manger in the entertainment business then LA should be a great fit. Otherwise, you will have a tough time finding work in LA.

Most people leaving DC for CA tend to be native Californians themselves. They do their time working on Capitol Hill or some non-profit foundation and then get the F out of Dodge after a couple of years. I have yet to meet one Californian who enjoys living in Washington, DC.

Californians hate DC: its swampy weather, its Southern-ess, its overpriced real estate in an unattractive city, its lack of great Hispanic and Asian eateries, its stereotypical Type A workaholic types, its lack of interesting architecture. I can go on.

If I want to sit in rush hour traffic for two hours; deal with rude, ambitious people; pay $10 for a deli sandwich; fork over $15 for a cocktail drink; contribute half of my monthly income to the landlord--I would much rather do so in a place with attractive people and year-round beautiful weather in like San Francisco or Los Angeles. Not in Washington, DC. Yes?

BTW...It amazes me that people just skip over the Midwest and Rocky Mountain states for a lifestyle and career. Coastal yuppie elitism in all of its ugly glory.

and we are all dying to meet you: sounds like you will be the center of attention, just what you want to be. I am not sure, even DC is the place for you; how about another plane?

There is only like one city in the midwest that can compete with DC, NY, and LA (Chicago obviously). It doesn't mate you an elite snob if you prefer to live in very big diverse cities. Some people like me hate living in smaller places/suburbia.
