Hi all!

Granted, California is a liberal state and I don't foresee that changing any time soon.
However, if the state assembly members and state senators approval ratings are so low and many of us claimed to be upset with them for the long overdue joke of a budget why is it that they were not voted out in droves ?
I would love to know if any legislators were voted out because it appears everyone retained their job - at least in the Sacramento area. I know I tried to vote them out by voting against any incumbent.
I guess most people can't seem to people their money where their mouth is.

They are?

In 2010 just 14% of voters on average approved of the job the legislature was doing, while 76% disapproved. Opinions have rebounded since then, although they remain slightly more negative (42%) than
positive (34%)
Now let's see, what has changed since 2010?

Not that 34% is a stellar approval rating, but it is much much better than the approval rating currently enjoyed by Congress.

1) Apparently, opinions of state legislators aren't as bad as you think.
2) Choices for replacements are in many cases worse.
3) The budget hasn't been a joke for a couple years now.
4) Voting against any/all incumbents - simply because they are incumbents - as a broad strategy for reform doesn't strike me as very thoughtful.

Now you have an opportunity to replace 3 state Senate members:

Governor Brown Issues Proclamations Declaring Special Elections for 7th, 21st and 37th Senate Districts

7th district: vacated because its former holder won a seat in Congress.

21st district: vacated because its former holder won a seat in Congress.

37th district: vacated because its former holder won a seat in Congress.

For a state that supposedly hates its representatives in Sacramento, California seems oddly inclined to send them on to Washington.

Be that as it may, giving someone a promotion is an unusual way to show dissatisfaction with their job performance.

It is not very thoughtful. Shall we imagine just what the whole of a state legislature, of a state with 38 million people, would look like when taken over entirely by rookies? US Congress in recent elections has grossly illustrated many examples of the folly of this approach. Somebody needs to know how to govern, not just yell.
