Over the summer I visited some family in Tracy and then took a trip to Portland. On our way we stopped at a place called The Olive Pit in Corning and I ordered a lemon olive oil shake. Good lord! That was the grossest thing I've ever drank... Shoulda expected it, though. Still, I'm glad I tried it. Just something unusual to spice up your life. So I'm due to head back up north that way on another trip and am looking for some more bizarre foods and eateries. Anybody got any ideas or opinions?

Well, if you go through SF, there's always this:

Forbes Island has it's dining room underwater. Have to take a boat to get there.

Gott's in St. Helena (previously called Taylor's Refresher). Yummy, gourmet-ish food served in an old-style drive-in/walk-up location.

If you go the central route, stop by this place in Bend, OR:

Deschutes Brewery Bend Public House

Could help one develop formidable displays of "bizarre" behavior. Bend is kind of weird, anyway.

Hmm....lots of Garlic themed restaurants in Gilroy, CA.
Some artichoke-themed restaurants in Castroville.
There's Pea-Soup Andersens near Los Banos right of of I-5 for some Euro flair.
The Iron-Door Saloon in Groveland - CA's oldest.

The original Andersen's Pea Soup restaurant is located in Buellton, CA just a short drive from the more famous Danish themed town of Solvang. Los Banos' restaurant was their second location to provide northern Californians a chance to enjoy their food without the long drive. The Buellton restaurant is nicer IMO.

Has anyone tried the Taco Bell on the beach in Pacifica? I did once just to say I did it.

Years ago there was an A&W on the beach at Pacifica. Wonder if it's the same place?

Thanks for all the info, everyone. We are definitely stopping at Gott's Roadside. I was looking at their menu and was surprised at their huge variety of food. Pea Soup Andersons is going on my 'I'm going to eat there someday' bucket list. Love me some pea soup! <3

Oh, and the Gilroy Garlic Festival. I have never tasted such wonderful pasta in my life. Has anyone been there?

I just love all of California's different restaurants, both local and chain. And, of course, with Asia being just a hop and skip across the Pacific, it's only natural that California has some of the best Asian cuisine.
