California is still the place to go to strike gold. The state spawned 23 new billionaires over the past year, bringing its total count to 131 — or nearly a quarter of America’s 10-digit club.

It not only has more billionaires than any other U.S. state, but also tops Germany, India, Russia and the UK. In fact, if California were a country, it would be home to the third-highest number of billionaires in the world, surpassed only by the United States (which has 541) and China (which has 223). California’s billionaires own a combined $560.1 billion in wealth, which is more than the GDP of 49 countries, including Argentina, Poland and Taiwan.

Not surprisingly, more than a third of the Golden State’s wealthiest entrepreneurs made their money in the tech industry. Others got rich in sectors such as investments, real estate and media.

Half of California’s billionaires live in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. San Francisco itself is home to 26 of them, and Los Angeles to 22. Among U.S. cities, only New York boasts more billionaires.

But, but, it's a Liberal state and no one wants works and just freeload off the govviement.

Uninformed Redardicans don't look at statistics. They just listen to the CONservative news that continue to spread propaganda.

Because if they did, they would see that Red States are the poorest and rely on Blue State taxes to support their failed state.

You know, bud, references to "*******s" and "retardicans" is insulting to not only those who identify with the two political parties. It's also an insult to persons with developmental disabilities and their families. Maybe you oughta dial that rhetoric style back a couple notches, eh?

And, for what it's worth to a zealot as you appear to be, not everything needs to be considered in terms of a battle of political ideologies anyway.

Very well said.

I get that incognitoe wants to mock some overused cliches but the name calling is immature and unproductive by its nature. Stacking lame name-puns on top of that just lowers the level of the discourse by another order of magnitude.

Are we nay-saying the practice of immature and unproductive behavior on the interwebs? Surely denigrating vulnerable populations to bolster our arguments is wholly available within our formidable keyboard arsenal against perceived threats, no?

If YouTube commentary is any indication, cheesy name calling is probably the end-all, be-all driving force behind all of our grade school academic efforts.

Billionaires like being here because when you have that much money, you don't worry about things like cost of living.

They like it here because of the goldilocks mix of climate, culture, entertainment, inherent political safety and natural beauty is like almost nowhere else in the world.

Everyone wants to be here. That's why the Real Estate market is in a huge bubble right now.
