I wish I could live in TX but it's too hot. It's almost too hot for me in the Bay Area now. Maybe I need to go North.

I've been in El Paso since September. I didn't think I'd make it this long. I literally almost called my Mommy to come get me.

Barren wasteland. Ugliest place I've ever seen.
I think Australia sends their left over critters and awful plants here because nothing lives here but stinging things and pale, prickly things.

*It is easy to drive around here though. Easy navigation and it's laid out nicely. I guess since there's not a damn thing out here it was a snap.

*The school my son goes to is ten times better than the one he was at in Maryland. I went to MD schools too and I can't believe the kids who get a ride here from Juarez have it so good.

*Having a taco truck in any direction has eased my pain.

San Antonio downtown might be the brightest spot in this whole state. I can't wait to leave even though I have adjusted. Nothing is going to make me like not having anything green to look at.

Same here, I think I'd never be able to adjust to the conservative mindset in Texas, or the dump weather, shortage of good beaches, lackluster cities and scenery etc...

However there are some things I do like about TX like the low cost of living, the overall friendliness of people, and the city of Austin does seem to have an interesting character

The mountains and deserts of the Trans-Pecos are interesting, but like you said, they are truly in the middle of nowhere, and you might as well visit (or live) in New Mexico which is a LOT more interesting. The Gulf shores are neat I guess, but humidity, hurricane season, mosquitos, visible oil rigs do take away some attraction.

I do agree that central Texas is the best part. I love the historical character of DT San Antonio, the health conscious and hip vibe of Austin (although aesthetically I find it a little bland compared to San Antonio, as well as the springs, caves, streams of the nearby hill country).

I think Dallas and Houston have the potential to be cooler cities, as they have the critical mass, but I think they attract the type of people who value having the bigger, better, newer house, rather than people who care about culture, etc.
And then there's poor little stepchild, Fort Worth. I live about 10 minutes from downtown, and it's shaping up to be such a "cool" city. Sundance Square, which feels like a square in a much bigger city, has become a gathering spot. We go there a lot, often late at night, and have never feared for our safety. Can't say that about most big cities.

I'm a California native and I would move to Texas. At least I won't be raped in taxes or deal with ******* *******s that infest California. 3 more months baby and I'm out of this ****hole forever.

V8Vega. Gtfo of Sylmar and head to Idaho or Eastern Oregon rather than bitching how much California is infested with *******s and socialists. I agree it is infested with socialists and self-hating *******s but come the **** on, move somewhere you are happy.

I agree. The complainers who live here should just move.

As a moderate republican I take the good with the bad. Love it here and ignore the bad. Texas sucks on so many levels. The daily weather would remind me of the adage: You get what you pay for. So how is the skiing in Texas? I could go on, but no point....

Texas has a similar Mexican culture that California has but California has a quality of life if you can afford it and better weather.
