No I don't think so at all. Sane people figure this state is lost and it is. 3 Democrats for every one Republican and that's not going to change in my lifetime. The Democrats have all the power and use it to make sure they stay in power forever with laws that favor Democrats.
The Public Employees unions force their members to pay dues which they use to be sure Democrats are elected.
This is a high population state, there is lots and lots of teachers who all pay union dues, the teachers union here is the most powerful union on the planet.
There is no hope for California.

It very much depends on where you live in California.

I live in a very conservative area in Southern California, and sometimes I wonder who the heck the "media" (and the rest of the U.S.) deems is so "liberal" in California. It really is a head scratcher because I am the "liberal" in my town and I'd be considered pretty moderate anywhere else in the U.S.

If "liberal" is a synonym for "tax and spend" then California takes the cake.

Yes it is. Except for pockets of far left along the coast, most of the state is moderate, and there are pockets of far right. Californians will and do vote for moderate Republicans (Schwarzenegger for example). And Jerry Brown is popular because he governs like a moderate centrist. Liberals are upset with him because they believe he's too frugal with the state budget.

The only reason Democrats dominate in California is because the Republicans shifted to the far right and made themselves unelectable. Ted Cruz-style "pure conservatism" is not popular in California. In many areas of California Democrats don't win elections, Republicans lose them because moderate Repubs can't win the primary.

Liberalness overstated? On the whole, not at all. There are conservative areas, to be sure, but they're outmanned by the vast numbers of liberals. There are places where it's hard even to be a moderate without encountering outright hostility for eating a cheeseburger, not hating "the 1%", etc.
