Richmond - 18
San Fran - 46
Oakland - 68 or 75(two sources)
San Jose - 27
Fresno - 32
Vallejo - 6
Stockton 33
Sacramento?
Los Angeles - 253(latest estimate)

Chicago - 561(this is considered a good year)
Baltimore - 308
Saint Louis - 186(same population as Stockton)
New Orleans - 145

Conservatives keep telling me that California is a warzone, but stats say otherwise. What's going on?

Maybe those conservatives you're listening to are lying to you. Ever think of that? People - no matter which political party they align with - believe things that suit their agenda. Crime is everywhere.

Just like today, for instance. Big news story about a fairly new (and young) police officer killed in Davis. Davis has been touted as this wonderful safe city where bad things rarely happen. Truth is, bad things happen everywhere and eventually even in the once upon a time safe towns.

LA is still higher then StLoius and New Orleans. NO used to have the highest murder rate. My friends daughter was murdered there as a tourist.

The street gangs aren't at war like in the 90's. I think that helps the murder rate a lot.

I listed total murders for the year , 2018, actually.

I wanted to amend my original post to include that bit but too much time had passed.

So New Orleans had 145 murders vs Los Angeles's 253

Edit: Oakland = a little larger than NO in population
Baltimore = a little larger than Fresno in population

Do you have a source for that or a quote? "Conservatives keep telling me that Ca. is a warzone..."

Never heard that before.

Never heard that before.
It's all over social media. Anytime something crazy happens in California, trumppers come out the woodwork with their anticalifornia rhetoric. They worked extra hard after the officer death in December.

You even see city propaganda on here: it's common to see rural Californians telling people to stay away from places like Stockton and oakland cause they're 'too dangerous to even visit.'
If they only knew ..

From Twitter:

"Democrats DESTROY EVERYTHING just LOOK at California. Los Angeles is a Warzone! The ONLY county that's ok is Orange County and it's run by Republicans. Tallahassee Fl. was destroyed by Liberal Gillum who made it a warzone and is being investigated for fraud. "

Comparing raw crime numbers is interesting but really doesn't tell you much unless you do the rate-XXX/100000 for example.
