for us who have not seen that ancient tree with a car tunnel, is there still one left to see?


been to Yosemite and Muir Woods but haven't seen a tree with a tunnel yet

That tree's death received its death sentence when they cut a hole in it 130 years ago. Same with the one in Yosemite (which fell back in the early 70s). People were so stupid back in the day.

Agree. At least Nature took it at the end, instead of a chainsaw.

thanks for the link. it really shows that the parks are really big and a one day visit is not just enough to explore them

True. And while sad, the only thing that made this particular tree special was what humans did to it 140 years ago. I'm surprised people even had to foresight for preservation back then since they didn't just cut it down. Shows they at least admired the tree a little.

What saved the Sequoias was the brittle nature of its wood. They would fall a Sequoia and the tree would shatter when it hit the ground.
